Program Overview

The Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (37 credits) provides students with the professional knowledge and management skills necessary to be effective and socially responsible leaders in regional, national, and global health services systems. The program seeks to develop in its students an essential understanding of healthcare delivery systems and services, the factors that influence the healthcare environment, the appropriate healthcare management and research skills, and the professional competencies that are pertinent in today’s healthcare environment.

To be awarded the Master of Science in Healthcare Administration degree a student must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

We have tailored our offerings to meet the demands of your professional and personal life, letting you stay on your career track while earning your degree. Our classes are offered on-site, on-line or both—whichever works best for you. On-site classes, which run for fifteen weeks, are held during the evenings on our Wilkes-Barre campus; on-line classes are offered in an accelerated seven-week format. King's College has a rolling admissions process.  Upon receipt of all of all admission documents, prospective students will receive an admission decision within two weeks.

Admission Requirements

The Graduate Admissions Committee is concerned with each applicant's interest, aptitude, and potential for achievement in graduate studies. The structure of the programs lends itself both to recent college graduates and to professionals who have delayed their graduate studies.

All applicants should possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Before an applicant will be evaluated, he or she must submit:

Program Learning Goals

Health services providers and systems recognize that the path to success as a healthcare professional requires complementary skills in many areas of the profession. Through the William G. McGowan School of Business Assurance of Learning Program, students are expected to achieve a genuine integration of liberal, management, and professional healthcare education, and to be prepared for success in the competitive global marketplace.

The William G. McGowan School of Business insists that its students see how diverse subject matters interrelate; that its students think and communicate clearly about principles, rather than merely repeat them; that its students understand the context and evolution of their disciplines; that business and healthcare administration courses are complementary to and an extension of a liberal education. To achieve these outcomes, the School of Business has identified the following learning goals for its specialized Health Care Administration program.

A student graduating with a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from the William G. McGowan School of Business will:

  • be an effective communicator; Our students will be able to prepare and properly deliver a complete, concise presentation related to health care administration, and prepare and properly format a complete, concise document related to health care administration.
  • be a problem solver; Our students to be able to identify and analyze alternatives and recommend a course of action in unstructured health care administration problems, and to think through dilemmas they face and to propose courses of action, justify their recommendations and formulate alternative solutions.
  •  be ethically and socially responsible; Our students will be able to stand up for what they think, after due reflection, is right, hold ethically defensible views, move to a higher, more sophisticated or more mature stage of moral reasoning,, and develop the capacity to implement ethical decisions.
  • possess leadership qualities; Our students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of leadership skills and leader characteristics and the components of leadership.

A student awarded an Executive Leadership Certificate for Health Care Professionals from the William G. McGowan School of Business will possess leadership qualities and be a problem solver.

Program of Study

Courses are offered in an accelerated online format during the fall, spring, and summer semesters and on the main campus one night a week during the fall and spring semesters. Students have the option of completing the entire M.S. in Healthcare Administration online through Moodle. Jefferson Doctoral Program

Graduates of the King’s College Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (MHA) program can continue their education and earn a Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) in Population Health Management from the Thomas Jefferson University College of Population Health (JCPH). 

JCPH provides priority admission, with a tuition discount, of two seats each academic year to King’s College students who complete the MHA program with a GPA of 3.3 or better, have at least five years of relevant work experience, and meet the JCPH admission requirements.  

Unlike a Ph.D., where the focus is on research, a DHSc focuses on practical applications, providing students with the knowledge to further their role as healthcare leaders. The DHSc is a 52-credit online, small cohort-based program. It connects students with world-class faculty and leaders in population health and healthcare leadership to take a deeper dive into the roles of administrators, leaders, and clinicians in addressing the complex health needs of our communities. 

Students begin the cohort in the fall semester and complete the program in the summer of the third year. The program also includes two in-person residencies each year.
