Aug. 21, 2013 - King’s College will host a free public celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 29, on the third floor of the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center.

The highlight of the event, titled “MLK: 50 Years of an Unforgettable Dream,” will involve Ronald Felton, president of the Wilkes-Barre Chapter of the NAACP, reenacting the speech delivered at the Lincoln Monument in Washington, D.C., in 1963.

The program will also include a welcoming by Fr. John Ryan, C.S.C., King’s president; reflections from Pastor Sean Walker of First Baptist Church and students from King’s, Wilkes, and Misericordia; performances by the choirs of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and King’s and aKKord Mime Ministry; and a closing prayer by Caitlin Czech, Campus Interfaith Coordinator at Wilkes University.

“The event is intended to be a revitalization of our community’s commitment to the development of a passionate nation of liberty,” said Nathan Ward, director of college diversity at King’s.
