College is an important time of academic, personal, and social development. It brings new challenges, changes, decisions, opportunities, and experiences. Our mission is to support our students’ overall emotional health, help them pursue their academic success, and empower them to meet their career and life goals.

To achieve this mission, the Counseling Center strives to:

  • Provide quality mental health treatment with qualified clinicians using best practices.
  • Adhere to the guiding Code of Ethics from our respective disciplines.
  • Practice with inclusivity, cultural competence, and cultural humility. We respect every student’s inherent dignity and worth regardless of their gender identity, race, ethnic background, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, economic background, or disability/ability.
  • Offer a variety of services to meet student and campus community needs, including individual counseling sessions, consultation, programming and outreach, groups and workshops, crisis and emergency intervention, psychiatric consultation, and referrals when appropriate.
  • Support the overall Mission of King’s College by being a part of a nurturing community that cultivates personal connections and provides genuine compassion and attention to all our students.

All currently enrolled full-time undergraduate students can use the Counseling Center’s services. Full-time graduate students who take in-person classes on campus are also eligible for services. Eligibility for part-time undergraduate students is considered on a case-by-case basis.

Students have access to qualified and competent master’s level mental health clinicians, all of whom can provide students with short-term, equitable, sensitive, and confidential support. We offer these counseling services in a comfortable and private office environment at no additional charge to the student.

A student is encouraged to make an appointment to see a Counseling Center clinician if they are having trouble with:

  • Adjusting to college life, homesickness, roommate challenges, time management, forming new relationships, and managing expectations
  • Managing typical stress or sadness
  • Treating anxiety disorders or clinical depression
  • Coping with grief and loss
  • Working through family conflict
  • Improving self-esteem
  • Personal identity questions
  • Navigating perfectionism
  • Creating healthy boundaries and/or identifying unhealthy relationships
  • Identifying and addressing unhealthy body image and/or distorted eating
